A two storey extension to a substantial Victorian terraced house in Clapham.
The project creates a modern open plan space connecting the kitchen with the living room and the garden. Changes of level between the extension and the living room and large glazed folding double doors provide a degree of separation between the new element and the more traditional reception rooms. A corner-opening sliding door completely opens up the interior to a sunken external terrace.
On the first floor a poorly built conservatory was replaced with a modern lightweight bedroom in render with a corner-glazed window with views over the garden. The ground floor is built from white calcium silicate bricks, a cue taken from the white painted brickwork of the original kitchen. Rain water is collected in a recycled oak barrel.
